Adventurous (or crazy) me…
Oh my stars, Carolyn! What a whirlwind weekend I’ve had. The Brown family visit was such a blessing on Friday. They also have 3 kids and they are almost the exact ages as our 3 so it works out splendidly. We couldn’t stop smiling, even after they left. I felt like the old me for having company, not the “new girl in town” me that I’ve been off and on for 3 years.
Then on Saturday we planted grass seed. By we I mean Mike. It had to have been the most gorgeous sunny day we’ve had in weeks. Perfection from above! The sun was shining, heating things up to a balmy 75 degrees or so. We were able to wear shorts and tank tops. A friend rode down on her Ranger and brought me an herb garden thing she doesn’t want and visited for a little bit. The girls nagged us into getting the sprinkler out in the front for them. I can absolutely not wait to see the grass in the backyard sprouting. They say it takes about 10 days. Abby had a friend over that evening late and we roasted hot dogs and marshmallows in our little firepit we built. I will have to send pics soon when I get this dumb computer figured out. Then I took her (the friend) home around 10 pm. You see, everything is later in AK in the summer. We live up the sunshine while we can while it’s bright out so late! So fun!
My good friend, Meredith, called Saturday afternoon to tell me rub it in that she was down in Kenai fishing this weekend and “the reds are hot” and to “get your tails down here, ASAP”. For people who don’t speak Alaskan that means that the sockeye salmon are running. In fact, about 70000 fish were counted running in the Kenai River on Sunday. I would say she might have encouraged me to call in sick to work at church on Sunday morning but we might both get into trouble, so she didn’t (wink, wink). I couldn’t bring myself to do it but Mike didn’t feel like he could take off work on Monday. So, that brings us to my true adventuring spirit. I decided to take the girls by myself and go camp with Meredith and her family on Sunday after church/work. It was a whirlwind getting ready while Mike went and bought me my own hip waders and rain gear. I should have gotten chest waders but that’s neither here nor there. I will explain later and tell you all about the adventures.
Tell Teresa and the kids hello from us!
Unpacking and freezing fillets,
Kristy
