It's Neither Here Nor There

Johnny Cash

July7

Dear Kristy,

We are back from camping at the New River. I have two words to describe our trip- Johnny Cash.

Let me explain.

First, it is beautiful out there! We tubed down the river and rode the short stint of what they call the rapids. We could get out and walk down a road to ride the ‘rapids’ as many times as we wanted. It was relaxing yet fun. Later in the day Sam and I fished but didn’t catch anything. Maybe the reason we didn’t see any fish is because Adelyn decided to go swimming again. We had a campfire, roasted hot dogs and Jeff attempted to tell ghost stories. Sam thought he was an idiot. Adelyn was like glue to me the rest of the night.

But it is the night that brings up Johnny Cash.

We are all settled in our tent that Sam and Jeff so proudly put together. The night turned the air cool and the atmosphere was peaceful. Well, that was until around midnight when Johnny Cash’s Folsom Prison song began singing in my head! No joke!

I hear the train a comin’

It’s rolling round the bend!

The train came blazing by our tent not once, not twice. And it always came by right as I was about to fall asleep again. Everytime it came by I would start singing Johnny’s song. I could hear it from a distance ‘rolling round the bend’. I could smell the hot tar from the railroad tracks! I am not kidding. And like Johnny said in his song:

When I hear that whistle blowing,

I hang my head and cry.

After about the 6th time the train woke me up I wanted to ‘hang my head and cry’. But soon morning came, the daylight made the train not quite as loud. We had other things to distract us. We packed up our camping gear and fun memories made. We had a blast despite the train rollin’ round the bend!

Camping is something the Nobles will definitely do again! Just not by train tracks, but that’s neither here nor there!

Pooped,

Carolyn

Wow Carolyn, the first paragraph had me actually WANTING to go camping, with all FOUR of my YOUNG children nonetheless ,which, for this girl, is nothing short of a miracle (especially to her nature-loving, camping expert husband). The campfire, hotdogs, and ghost stories just sounds like such a fun family memory-making time. But then the reality sets in (especially the train!) and I realize what it would REALLY be like for my family at this time in our lives! Maybe in a few years…

Loving the blog-love the idea (Kristy, did you maybe even mention something like this to me a while ago?), love each of your writing, and LOVE, LOVE the graphics!

    Stephanie
