It's Neither Here Nor There

A blog about two friends far apart yet close at heart.

channeling my inner carolyn

September7

Dear Carolyn,

Oh my goodness! Had you been here with us today, you would have probably been laughing your head off. I can almost bet it and hear it if I listen closely. You know I’ve always wished I had your skills, your keen eye for photography, your ability to use PSE and iPhoto and all the other techy stuff to your advantage. Well, honey, today I channeled my inner Carolyn and bravely went where I’ve not dared go in a long time. ON A PHOTO SHOOT of my kids with me acting as photographer. Acting is the key word and you heard it right. And can you imagine Mike as my assistant? Let me spare you having to and  suffice it to say that you and I were a much better team! You kept me calm while photographing the girls. You know how high strung I can be; well today was no exception. You are so laid back about it all, not trying to make anything happen, rather just capturing what does. Me and Mike, on the other hand are like logs and matches when it comes to projects. Add to that a testy 4 year old who tires of it about 5 minutes in, a dog who needs some better leash management training,  and a rambuncious 16 month old who’s much too opinionated to let me set up a shot the way I want to. Dang it! I must say, though, when you’d finally walked me through (thousands of miles away and with your tooth guard in if I’m not mistaken ) downloading the millions hundreds of photos onto the external hard drive first so I wouldn’t continue to clutter up iPhoto….ummm….thank goodness you weren’t alseep yet over there on the east coast other side of the world…where was I? Oh yeah, I was really proud of those photos. Mike and I might just need counseling but that’s neither here nor there. We survived and we have beautiful kids to show for it. Someday surely we will look back and laugh at the memories of this day. And now the grandparents will have not just one, but several photographs of ALL 3 of our children in the same picture, a dream come true. Whew! And the scenery and day couldn’t have been more beautiful. We were in our little slice of heaven that God has given us (and the rest of anyone around here, but we really claim it as our own special place), Hatcher Pass.

Here’s a few of my favorite shots, although it was hard to narrow down!

Missing your clicking camera,

Kristy

I.am.so.PROUD.of.you!!! The photos are incredible! I love how Alaskan they look.
And just so you know, Jeff and I can not do projects together either.
Either it is OK or we all need counseling!

These pictures are a dream come true, for this grandma at least! The only thing better is being there! Hatcher’s Pass and Lil Susitna are two of my favorite places you all have taken me. I would love to have a cabin on the Lil Su right where those pics are taken. Love you.

Kristy, I saw this on your mom’s fb comment and just had to “have a look”. Impressive scenery, but more impressive children. While mine were all little, older people would walk up to me and say “enjoy them while they’re little” and I just didn’t get it at that time. As time when by I remember saying that i missed my babies, especially when they were teenagers. You remember that age. ugh!! Anyway, I think you have amazing children and you are an amazing woman. Enjoy them while they are little and taking pictures like these will help you remember when they are grown and moved far away like Alaska. Right Ginger? Love you Kristy. I’m proud of you.

Beautiful pictures, Kristy! You and Carolyn are both such talented photographers. Your backdrop is inspiring me to go up there and take some pics of the boys, but… maybe not in this wind storm! :)
