It's Neither Here Nor There

A blog about two friends far apart yet close at heart.

Company’s Coming

July16

Dear Carolyn,

I really laughed hard on your last letter, girl. Holy cow, I really think you have stepped outside yourself to share that experience in the webosphrere. It’s just too good a story not to share, though. Hilarious! You never cease to amaze me.

We got dirt. Yippeeee! I took some great pics of our friends and our kids out on the dirt piles and in the skidder thing with Craig but I couldn’t get them downloaded. There are over a thousand photos on my camera so it takes forever for it to get to the new ones that I haven’t downloaded. I plugged in the camera last night and thought it was happily downloading my fabulouso shots and went to get ready for bed. When I got back, all that was there was 2 pics of some cloth diapers I made this week. The 2 very last ones I’d taken. I NEED YOU HERE, my photography/techno friend. It said something about my “disk is too full”. Hmphh, I tell you, hmppphhhhh! Talk about frustrating. So I couldn’t blog without my photos and you had to write me twice. It is messing with me. I need to get out that handy external hard drive you guys hooked us up with.

Speaking of full… our lives are so full right now I could nearly burst. We are happily settling into our new home. The kids are full-fledged Alaskans. This morning I had 2 reality checks regarding my no longer Arkansan family. On the way to take Abby to camp, I said, “I’m just going to pretend for now that it’s going to stay summer forever!” Abby replied, “NO, I’m ready for winter!” Can you believe the audacity of that outdoor loving gal? Then me and the 2 littlest went to the grocery store. It was drizzling, just drippy wet, no big deal (good coffee weather). Lilly said, “Momma, it’s pouring down, isn’t it?” There’re 2 things about that statement. First of all, in AR she would have said, “Ain’t it?” and second of all, it NEVER POURS here. I think we’ve heard thunder once in 3 years, seen lighting just the once, and haven’t seen a gully washer like we remember from AR in a coon’s age. There’s just no storms or downpours here. Really. No moms calling to make sure we have the kids in the hall closet and no tornado sirens to be heard. Crazy, huh? But we’re in God’s country and we are blessed to the fullest measure.

Well, as I eluded to in my catchy little title, company’s coming for dinner. Fresh bacon wrapped halibut is going on the grill, potatoes in the oven (when the brownies are done), and summer squash with a little butter and garlic on the stovetop. I have salads to prep and porches to sweeep, but that’s neither here nor there. I love it when company’s coming!

Have a good one,

Kristy
